A Laparotomy Sponge, also known as a Lap Sponge or Abdominal Pad, is an absorbent pad used during operations and surgical procedures. A lap sponge helps doctors and surgeons in keeping the surgical area free of excessive body fluids, blood, and other liquids, allowing the surgical team to clearly visualize the surgical region, which ultimately aids the overall quality of surgery. A lap sponge can also be used to apply pressure to stop bleeding.

STAYGUARD™ IS THE BRAND OF CHOICE

StayGuard™ Lap Sponges, made of high quality 100% pure absorbent cotton, are available in a wide range of options to meet the needs of any surgical procedure. The size, mesh, yarn, ply (layers), pre-washed/unwashed, and x-ray detectability, and sterility must be considered for the proper surgical application. For example, surgeons will choose non-sterile lap sponges when only used for absorption of liquids and there is no direct contact with the site of the wound. The level of absorption is determined by the density of the mesh, while the thickness of the sponge is determined by the ply. Therefore, it is important that the correct specifications are chosen for a surgical procedure. Our lap sponges are produced with ISO, CE and USFDA certifications.

PRODUCT USAGE

StayGuard™ Lap Sponges are commonly used in hospitals, operating rooms, emergency rooms, for first aid, and other medical applications requiring high absorption or compression. Available in 8 sizes, 5 different ply, 9 meshes, 3 yarns, pre-washed or unwashed, x-ray detectable, and sterile or non-sterile, hundreds of options can meet the needs of any surgeon.
